U.S. Congressman Colin Allred Visits A&M-Commerce at Dallas

On Tuesday, August 8, U.S. Congressman Colin Allred went to Texas A&M University-Commerce at Dallas to celebrate the new Pride Pathway teaching certification programme at the school. Allred was a big supporter of A&M-Commerce, and he helped the university get $516,614 from the federal government to start the programme.

Pride Pathway offers a creative way to deal with the lack of teachers in Texas by investing in people who want to become teachers but are already working as paraprofessionals in local school districts. The programme is made for people who are working and gives them an easy way to go from a bachelor’s degree to alternative teaching certification.

For the first start of Pride Pathway in the autumn of 2023, A&M-Commerce is working with Dallas, Crandall, Mount Pleasant, and Garland ISDs.

During his visit, Allred talked to the teachers, staff, and students at A&M-Commerce about what they thought Pride Pathway would do.

“The point of education is people. Students remember their teachers because they have made an impression on them. This is why A&M-Commerce’s Pride Pathway programme is so important; it will help Texas deal with its teacher shortage.”

He also said, “A&M-Commerce is a great school, and we’re happy to have them here.” They will help us teach better by filling in the gaps.”

The head of A&M-Commerce, Dr. Mark Rudin, thanked Allred for his support of and dedication to A&M-Commerce.
